LEV Testing Experts

LEV testing is vital for protecting the health and safety of staff and visitors.

These systems remove dust, dirt, and fumes from the air, preventing harmful particles from being inhaled.

Strict regulations require regular testing to ensure they are working effectively and keeping everyone on site safe.

LEV Legislation

Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 (HSWA):

Employers have a duty to ensure, so far as reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of employees.

Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH):

Requires employers to prevent or adequately control exposure to hazardous substances, including ensuring LEV systems are suitable, maintained, and used correctly

COSHH Regulation 9 (Maintenance, Examination and Testing):

  • LEV systems must be thoroughly examined and tested at least every 14 months (more often in some industries, e.g., woodworking – every 6 months; shot blasting – every month).
  • Employers must ensure systems are kept clean and in efficient working order.
  • Maintenance and cleaning tasks must be documented.

Why is LEV Testing Important?

Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems are designed to capture and remove harmful airborne substances such as dust, fumes, vapours, and gases before they can be breathed in. Without proper maintenance and testing, these systems may fail to protect employees—leading to serious health risks, including respiratory illness, long-term occupational disease, and even life-threatening conditions.

Regular LEV testing is vital because it

  • Ensures your system is effectively controlling hazardous substances
  • Helps protect the health and safety of employees and building users
  • Meets your legal obligations under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002
  • Reduces the risk of enforcement action, fines, or reputational damage
  • Provides peace of mind that your workplace is safe and compliant

By law, LEV systems must be thoroughly examined and tested at least every 14 months (more frequently for certain high-risk processes).
